I Am No Man
No man has yet been selected as the charter enshrinee into The Hacks Hame of Fall.
Diamondhacks is, however, pleased to announce - on Mother's Day - that the late Beatrice Villareal is the first individual to be enshrined into the Hame's 2006 inaugural class, selected unanimously by that institution's Picking Committee.
Villareal, known as La Madre de Quibras (The Mother of Failures), was, at the age of 87, "removed" from her lifelong 1000 sq ft home against her initial wishes - to facilitate construction of a ballpark garage. She died six weeks later, some relatives suggest, from the dislocation - and her resulting "curse", it is claimed, ensured subsequent hardship for the baseball franchise that, effectively, killed her.
Her plaque will read:
SENORA BEATRICE VILLAREAL
- Frail octogenarian overwhelmed in life by Diamondbacks lawyers, "La Madre de Quibras" returned stronger in spirit to curse the client franchise throughout it's arrogant infancy.
Few question the existence of the curse itself, however some have doubted it's efficacy since the Diamondbacks 2001 World Series victory. Believers posit that Villareal may have taken a brief rest (from hexing) in late 2001, something she was not afforded while bulldozers razed her modest dwelling.
The Hacks Hame of Fall was created to recognize players and other pioneers who have facilitated, or gloriously embodied, the downfall of The Arizona Diamondbacks
I read where the Diamondbacks offered her financial independence and she turned it down. They had to tear down the neighborhood, what was left of it, to build the stadium, which has done alot of public good for the Valley. Why dont you just let this lady rest in peace? This is just ridiculous.

False. Most every new ballpark tries rather desperately to incorporate some decaying old warehouse into a corner of the new facility to create "insta-charm". They didn't have to tear her house down. Wouldn't the stadium be that much cooler with her little house jutting out of the concourse instead of a sausage stand and another team shop?

MY GRANDMA GOT HOME SICK THAT HOUSE WAS ALL HER LIFE AND MEMORIES WHERE SHE AND ALL HER KIDS GREW UP I MISS GOING OVER THERE TO HER LIL HOUSE ON CHRISTMAS EVERY YEAR WE WOULD GO AND EAT MENUDO AND COOKIES AND OPEN GIFTS I WAS JUST YOUNG BUT I REMEMBER! I LOVE AND MISS HER!

Beatrice Villareal was my grandmother. She didn't place a curse on the D-backs; that's an urban legend. I should know; as one of the oldest grandchildren, I spent a lot of time with her & was with her when she died. All she wanted was to spend her last days in the home that her father built in the late 1880's, the home where she was born.
For Pete's sake, let her rest in peace!

I dont believe in the curse either, but your late grandmother's "eviction" and her feelings about it are well documented facts. I used that (and the existing legend) to poke some fun at the Diamondbacks.
As far as letting her rest in peace, I agree. This satire, which generated virtually no response, was written two years ago.
