The Song Remains The Same

In a pair of surprise moves Wednesday, Brandon Webb was dealt to the Houston Astros and Carlos Quentin was optioned to the Lethbridge Raspberries.

Acccording to diamondbacks.com, Orlando Hudson was also...what?

What's that?

New uniforms? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, that's right!

( Nevermind.)

*******************************************************************************************

Dbacks' savvy marketing professionals unveiled their carnal duds less than 24 hours after the better part of our country emphatically dumped red for blue. Opinions differ as to who the last place Diamondbacks now most closely resemble, but the last place Arizona Cardinals, the last place Phoenix Coyotes and the last place Washington Nationals immediately spring to mind.

IchabodThe Arizona Republic's fashion scribe took a moment from flirting with Conor Jackson at the unveiling to gush that the new font is "masculine and aggressive", hardly suiting timid, middle-aged Bob Melvin, who looks like Ichabod Crane surveying a rave. The brazenly occult font evokes Iron Maiden more than the Iron Horse - and up on the catwalk - a Robertplant_1dazed and confused Eric Byrnes is now just buttons away from actually channeling Robert Plant.

Today, hundreds of disgusted reader comments, running 80-90% against the new junk, effectively drowned out President Derrick Hall's FEMA-esque claim that reaction to the change was "overwhelmingly positive".

Hall-ie, you're doin' a heckuva job!

Pimpplaya The trendy, comic book font and pimpish palette are the antithesis of a crisp, clean, classic baseball look and will be jettisoned soon enough for yet another merchandise overhaul - which, for those familiar with soulless organizations like the Houston Astros, is really the whole point.

2007 alternate red jerseys are $189 each and the matching red hat, just in time for Christmas, or eternal damnation, is $27.99+ shipping and handling.

More of what Diamondback fans are buying this year

I keep hearing people say the new unis look much better in person, but isn't that why they got rid of the purple?

Hee hee.

Tracy,

Didnt you get the memo about purple sending these valiant entrepeneurs to the poorhouse?

THAT'S why my blog is trimmed in coho salmon today...and I'm told that I will like it, "regardless of age or gender".

Why are you picking on Byrnesie? He doesn't look dazed and confused. And he probably likes Iron Maiden, or whatever his generation's equivalent band is.

Bawb,

Any minute now, soon as I pack the cah in the Hah-vad yahd.Go Sawx!

Kellia,

I admit Byrnsie looks better here than in that gangsta suit he wore during the playoffs. That said, I thought the comparison to a young Bob Plant was pretty flattering to EB :-)
