Dbacks' savvy marketing professionals unveiled their carnal duds less than 24 hours after the better part of our country emphatically dumped red for blue. Opinions differ as to who the last place Diamondbacks now most closely resemble, but the last place Arizona Cardinals, the last place Phoenix Coyotes and the last place Washington Nationals immediately spring to mind.
The Arizona Republic's fashion scribe took a moment from flirting with Conor Jackson at the unveiling to gush that the new font is "masculine and aggressive", hardly suiting timid, middle-aged Bob Melvin, who looks like Ichabod Crane surveying a rave. The brazenly occult font evokes Iron Maiden more than the Iron Horse - and up on the catwalk - a 
dazed and confused Eric Byrnes is now just buttons away from actually channeling Robert Plant.
Today, hundreds of disgusted reader comments, running 80-90% against the new junk, effectively drowned out President Derrick Hall's FEMA-esque claim that reaction to the change was "overwhelmingly positive".

The trendy, comic book font and pimpish palette are the antithesis of a crisp, clean, classic baseball look and will be jettisoned soon enough for yet another merchandise overhaul - which, for those familiar with soulless organizations like the Houston Astros, is really the whole point.

I admit Byrnsie looks better here than in that gangsta suit he wore during the playoffs. That said, I thought the comparison to a young Bob Plant was pretty flattering to EB :-)
