The Perils of Purple
A Diamondbacks press release explains the club's intention to dump the color purple this way:
When the team began play, the club received feedback from various media outlets that the color purple is a difficult one to match up when it comes to graphics, logos and photos with the purple coming out looking either blue or black. Purple also was a challenging color to match up from a merchandising standpoint.
Despite admirable efforts from Steven Spielberg, it seems the color purple is a box office bomb ?!?!

With today's computer graphics, all the team has to do is to specify the RBG numbers to whomever is making gear or to the media photogs and Voila! Instant color match. Where the matching problems come in is when people trying to match by sight because different computer screens will show different shades. But that happens to ALL colors, not just purple. The same problem will occur with "Sedona" red.
I think the real problem has to do with the Helton shirt you display above. The Diamondbacks would much rather look like the Houston Astros than the Colorado Rockies. Houston made the World Series last year, and with the D'Backs pitching what it is, the team must rely on enjoying the post-season vicariously.

Absolutley. It's amusing to note that first word of the change referenced "brick red, sand(tan) and black", IDENTICAL to the Astro's entire scheme - and then the "brick" red appeared as "Sedona" red in the press release.
The Diamondbacks may put "The Onion" out of business.

The Diamondbacks seem to constantly do stupid things. We all know the history of: Wally Backman, Richie Sexson trade, dumping John Patterson for nothing, and on it goes. This uniform change is just another dumb idea since they really don't have a good reason for it (they just want to change Coangello's colors). Teams with class don't do these silly things. If they dare, they should show the new uniforms off and then let the fans vote.

I think the new colors are absolutely HIDEOUS and that the team should have stuck with the tried-and-true original colors...these new colors are gawd-awful...and I look at it this way, if the team is gonna be sporting sedona red, tan, and black, why not be sponsored by TARGET? The team may as well wear the Bullseye symbol on the backs of their jerseys instead of their names and numbers!
